Please inquire of past generations and consider the discoveries of their fathers. – Job 8:8

When Job’s friend came to visit him during time of calamity, a lot was said to Job and counsel was given. As I studied the book of Job, the verse that contained the counsel of Bildad to Job stood out for me as it contains the work of the ministry.

We are in the age where there’s a lot of bashing against the old generation of ministers/ministries, and it seems we have taken the position of correcting everything they say, and every move they make.

Bildad told Job to inquire of the past generations and consider the discoveries of their fathers, and in verse 10 he said, “will they not teach you and tell you and bring forth words from their minds?”.

I believe there was something God saw in them to call the fathers to use them. While everything they do may not be accurate, there is a place of inquiring, and a place of considering certain discoveries of the previous generation.

If we know so much, why have we not done so much, seen many miracles, and made much impact?

What did someone like Loren Cunningham of Youth With a Mission (YWAM) know as 20-year-old student from the United States, that transformed the organization to over 20,000 workers in hundreds of nations?

Is it possible that Oral Robert discovered something about God that made his healing ministry remarkable?

This may be a clarion call: like Bildad, I say to you … let us inquire of the past generations and consider the discoveries of their fathers.

Sadly, through Prophet Jeremiah, we find this same issue, and God spoke through him about the choice and the state of His own children. “This is what the LORD says: “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want! Jeremiah 6:16 (NLT).

Would you inquire today or will you not? The choice is yours.
