Last night after my studies before I retired to bed, I stumbled on a book by Dr Craig Keener. I flipped through a few pages and came across a particular verse of scripture for which he did an awesome job in terms of its proper interpretation.

I asked myself a very important question, Why are preachers sometimes afraid of “proper and contextual interpretation” of Scriptures?

These are a few reasons I came up with.

1. Some have heard the wrong interpretation long enough that they believe it is the truth without carrying out proper checks.

2. Some defer to a doctrine because the “big man of God or the General” in their own generation taught it like that.

3. Some were never properly raised by Bible teachers who paid attention to contextual interpretation of scriptures.

4. Some can be more focused on “results and what works” than proper interpretation of Scriptures.

It is important that those called to handle the teaching and preaching of God’s word do so with accuracy precision and patience.
