Psalm 89:22“The enemy will not deceive him, Nor will the son of wickedness afflict him. (NASB)

In Psalm 89, we are introduced to the afflictions of David and the Lord’s covenant with David. In verse 20 of Psalm 89, the Lord Himself introduces us to David as the one He has chosen and anointed to be king over Israel. In a similar manner, the Lord Jesus spoke to the disciples in the book of John “You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit,” (John 15:16,NASB).

God has chosen the New creation in Christ Jesus in Christ. We are neither forsaken nor rejected but we are chosen by God.

In verse 22, we are told the enemy will not deceive him. We must recognize that what the enemy does to the believer can only come by deception. This is why the greatest weapon of the believer against the enemy is the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:4).

The Hebrew word for deceive is “nasha” and it is the same word used by Paul in 2 Cor 11:3 “But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his trickery, your minds will be led astray from sincere and pure devotion to Christ”.

How does the enemy deceive us, It is simply from the pure devotion to Christ, and this takes place in our minds, through thoughts and suggestions. (2 Cor 10:5-6)

It is the will of God that you do not fall prey to deception and this will materialize when you are established in the truth. Make a concrete decision today that you will not be deceived by the enemy in your pure devotion to Christ and the simplicity of the Gospel.

In the Psalms today, we learn this “We do not become deceived when we are established in the truth”.
