One of the popular maxims we hear a lot is “practice makes perfect”. On the surface this looks great, but a closer look at it while it is helpful, we might need to adjust a few things. If you practice the wrong things or practice wrongly, you will never become perfect at the right things. Essentially, you must ensure whatever you are practicing is the right thing and in the right way.
In the same vein, never spiritualize your preparation for 2023 to the extent that you lose focus on practical wisdom that would help you excel.
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35, NIV.
Here we see Jesus carrying out a spiritual exercise of prayer and he also did some natural things to maximize His prayer moments.
- He got up before everyone else
- He left the house
- Went to a solitary place
- And lastly, he prayed.
Jesus took three practical steps before he prayed.
This month of December, you have thirty days to take practical steps in preparation for next year. Whatever your expectation is or you want to become next year, these are the days to practice it so that by January 1st you have perfected the act.
If you want to wake early to pray, if you want to read, if you want to be able to save or give more, outline the natural steps needed to make this spiritual exercise happen.
Make December for practice and January for execution.
