God’s call upon our lives was never designed for us to prove a point. You cannot prove a point by claiming success in ministry. In our day and time, there are many metrics people use to rate so-called “successful” ministries.
However, when you study the Scriptures, you will realize that ministry was always designed to function in obedience to God and faithfulness to whatever assignment He requires of you per time (1 Samuel 15:22).
This is why grace is essential in ministry, because both the assignment and the completion of the task require the grace of God (2 Corinthians 12:9).
What point was Hosea trying to prove when the Lord asked him to marry a prostitute? (Hosea 1).
What point was Peter trying to prove when he stood to speak on behalf of the One he had just denied? (John 18; Acts 2).
What point were the apostles proving when they counted it a joy to be beaten for the Lord? (Acts 5:41).
Once ministry becomes a means of proving a point, people become pawns in your hands. Everything turns into “content creation,” and actions are driven by the desire for the applause of men.
In summary, ministry is simple: absolute obedience and faithfulness to God in whatever assignment He has called you to fulfill.
