Many times, in ministry we covet and desire a lot of things. Most of which are spiritual gifts and relationships. Paul rightly instructs us to desire spiritual gifts, “But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way” (1 Cor 12: 31 NKJV). Paul still went ahead to show us the most excellent way of love.

I would say in ministry there is a place of desire and hunger, but most importantly we must never forget there are things that can only be given by God.  And how do we access these things:  firstly, we must walk in love with those that have the gifts which we seemingly desire but do not seem to possess.

Secondly, be content with the office , assignment God has called you to and the gifts that God has endowed you with (1 Cor 7:20; 12: 29, Romans 12: 6-16).

Many times, we neglect what we have in pursuit of what we think would make us more effective, famous or would draw in the people. The Lord who called you, will not call you and deprive you of what you need to excel in the call.

Amongst other things, the more excellent way would be to “walk in love”, do ministry out of love and trust that whatever you need for the Job He has called you to do God will bring it your way.

Recall the statement of John when he was told that even those, he baptized were going to meet Jesus “To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven” (John 3:27 NIV).
