In these days and time where it is nice to be politically correct, we are usually ashamed of the men who have been of a blessing to us, either because they are too poor (in our estimation or too rich), it is amazing that Paul appreciates the household of Onesiphorus not only for the fact that he ministered to Paul but for the fact that he was unashamed of his chains.
Sometimes associating with certain ministers would make people see us in a certain light, never become a Nicodemus who only visits at night. (John 3:2), these are those who know God is with you, know that you are called of God, but ashamed to associate with you. They would secretly ask all the questions on WhatsApp but never show up in your meetings for fear of been named alongside with you.
Boldly proclaim your associations, the associations you are ashamed of would never profit you, there cannot be a mutual exchange of GRACE in secret relationships.
Sometimes it is easy to be associated with the rich and famous, rather than a man laboring somewhere in chains and with the truth. And sometimes, you might not want to associate with those whom the Lord has blessed because you would be seen as been “money-minded”, whichever side of the coin you fall into. Godly relationships in the ministry and things of the Spirit are relationships we must never be ashamed of.
“You know that everyone in the Province of Asia has deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus because he has often refreshed me and was unashamed of my chains”. ( 2 Tim 1: 15-16).
